When one typically thinks of an incident involving medical malpractice, it is usually associated with a botched surgery or another event that occurs in a hospital.  According to a new study in the Journal of the American Medical Association, almost just as many medical malpractice claims are made in outpatient settings such as doctors' offices and urgent care centers.  It was found that of 10,7039 malpractice claims analyzed, 43 percent were for outpatient treatment.  This goes to show that, even though they may not be the popular cases, major mistakes can happen outside of an operating room.

The most common reason for filing a malpractice claim against an outpatient provider is misdiagnosis.  Doctors have to rely heavily on their patients for enough background information and sometimes it can be easy to overlook certain details in performing a diagnosis.  An example of this is the case of Sherril Ismay, who was diagnosed with gout but really had a flesh-eating bacteria infection.  She ended up having the majority of her lower leg amputated to prevent the spread of the infection.  This goes to show how even outpatient care, when negligence is involved, can result in major injury or death.  If you or someone you care about have suffered as a result of such medical care, you are entitled to benefits under law.  Call Wagner Reese today for a free consultation or visit our website for more information. As children, we grow up with firefighters and police officers as some of our greatest role-models, and almost every boy dreams at one point of being such a brave man when he grows up.  For four children from Mecca, Indiana, their view of one of these agencies may forever be tarnished.  Michael Collom, the Mecca Fire Chief, crashed into an area home early Wednesday morning.  The car flew into a bedroom, killing 43 year old Stacey Williamson and critically injuring his wife Mary.  Their four children are physically alright, but now suffer from the death of their father and life-threatening injuries of their mother.  According to the police, Collom is being held without bail on a preliminary drunken driving charge.

Accidents such as this are random, unforeseen events, but the impression they make can last a lifetime.  Because of a man's negligence, the town Fire Chief's negligence, a family will never be the same again.  Collom is facing criminal charges, but that is only the first step to recovery for this family.  They deserve some sort of compensation for the loss of their father and debilitation of their mother.  At Wagner Reese, our attorneys are passionate and dedicated to finding small solace in the aftermath of a wrongful and untimely death.  We are a law firm you can trust to fight for any comforts you may deserve, which could include compensation for lost income and household services, love and affection, medical bills, funeral and burial expenses, and the costs of pursing the case in court.  Contact us today if you need help in a similar situation. The Monon Trail is an important staple in the lives of many active residents of Indianapolis, Indiana and the surrounding suburbs.  It is a place where families and friends can be seen on group bike rides, rollerblading, and jogging.  It is a place where many people feel they can find peace in the middle of a big city.  This peace has been jeopardized as of late, as there have been three reported attacks on the Monon in a series of eight days.  The attacks range from taking a swing at a 60 year old man on a bike to shooting a man eight times in broad daylight.

In the summer months we all notice an increased presence on the streets:  bicyclists.  We should not only be appreciative of their environmentally-friendly behavior but, more importantly, as motorists it is our responsibility to share the road with these people in a safe manner.  Because of one driver's inability to share the road, a cyclist was killed on Friday.  45 year old Duane Gullion was struck by a hit-and-run driver on Indianapolis, Indiana's southwest side.  Moments after the initial crash, a woman drove by and had to swerve to avoid striking Gullion.  She immediately pulled over and called the police.  Sadly, Gullion was pronounced dead at the scene.  Little is known about the car that hit him, but police assume it would have severe windshield damage.

Because of a driver's negligence, a man who was simply riding his bike will never be able to speak with his family and friends ever again.  This is a time of great sadness and loss, and those close to Gullion will be searching for a way to cope with this crippling pain.  In such a situation, the family should not have to be worried about handling the insurance company and other legal matters.  Trust Wagner Reese to handle any paperwork while you grieve, and once the other person involved in the accident is found, we will make sure you receive compensation for the loss of your loved one.  If you or someone you know has experienced a similar situation, do not hesitate to contact us at (800) 792-0332 or visit our website. www.InjuryAttorneys.com

Tragedy struck the family of a Kokomo, Indiana road construction worker early last Wednesday evening.  A 28 year old father of three, Jeremy Bagwell, was struck by an SUV while he was painting temporary stripes on Indiana 63.  It is still unsure why exactly the driver of the SUV, Charmaine A. Brasher of Henderson, Kentucky, swerved into the blocked off lane and hit Bagwell and Warren County Sheriff Rusty Hart said it was too early to determine what, if any, charges Brasher may face.

A freak accident such as this can occur at anytime and claim the life of a loved one.  While Bagwell's father and other associates have already set up means for providing his children with money to fund college educations, there are other matters that will need to be settled during this family's time of grief.  Allow the attorneys at Wagner Reese to handle the insurance companies and find some sort of relief in this horrible time.  Our skilled lawyers have experience working with incidents resulting in the wrongful death of a loved one.  Visit our website or call today for a free consultation.
