An Indianapolis mother & a tow truck driver were both arrested last Thursday night after the tow truck driver towed away the woman’s vehicle while her son was asleep in the back seat.
The woman, Robyn Hardy, told police officers she left her son in the back seat to sleep while she went into the Dollar General store for about 15 minutes. The tow truck driver, Jason Gossett towed her car because she had left it parked in the fire lane. Admittedly, he did not look inside the car before he towed it away. When Hardy came out of the store and realized her car and her son were both gone, she immediately called the police. The Gossett brought the vehicle back as soon as she realized the boy was inside, but when the police examined his rigging, they realized the car was not attached properly, lacking safety lights and straps.
Police charged Gossett with reckless driving, and they also charged Hardy with negligence of a dependent because she had left him in the vehicle when it was only 30 degrees outside. Both were arrested.
Unfortunately, the story of Gossett is far too common. Reckless drivers are all around us and can cause incidents far worse than this one. Fortunately Hardy’s son was not injured, but can you imagine the devastation if he had been?
At Wagner Reese, we work hard to bring justice to situations like these. No, Hardy should not have left her son in that vehicle in such inclement weather, but that does not mean it was an excuse for Gossett to be so reckless in his job. To read the full story, click here.
